Frequently
asked questions
Welcome to the Fomar Friction FAQ section –
here you will find answers to the most frequently asked questions about our brake pads.
Where are Fomar products manufactured?
Our products are manufactured in our own factories, which are part of the MAT Holdings group, the owner of the Fomar brand. MAT factories are vertically integrated, meaning that components for the production of brake parts (such as plates, shims, and accessories) also come from MAT factories. The factories producing for the aftermarket are located in China and India, while those manufacturing for original equipment are based in Europe.
How are Fomar products tested?
Are Fomar products homologated?
Brake pad homologation is the process of approval by relevant institutions, confirming that the pads meet safety and quality standards. It is essential for the legal sale of brake pads. Our pads are homologated by German TUV, Spanish IDIADA, and Polish PIMOT. During the homologation process, the pads are tested for compliance with ECE R90 regulations, assessing braking effectiveness, durability, high-temperature resistance, wear minimization, and other safety criteria. Homologation ensures the quality and safety of brake pads.
Does Fomar manufacture brake pads for original equipment (OE)?
The Fomar brand is not dedicated to original equipment (OE) applications. However, within the MAT Holdings group, there are factories specifically dedicated to manufacturing for original equipment customers.
Do your Fomar brake pads have sensors?
Our brake pads are not equipped with sensors because it is not always necessary to replace sensors during every pad replacement.
What mileage do Fomar brake pads typically achieve?
The mileage that our brake pads can achieve depends on various factors, including the vehicle’s characteristics, load, driving style, and the condition and quality of other brake system components. For racing conditions, the mileage may be around 5,000 km, while dynamic city driving can reduce pad life to 10,000 – 25,000 km. On the other hand, primarily highway driving can extend the mileage to 20,000 – 50,000 km, and economical driving with engine braking can even reach 40,000 – 80,000 km or more. However, these are general estimates, and actual mileage may vary depending on operating conditions and individual factors. Regular monitoring of the brake pads and brake system is essential to ensure safety while driving.
Do Fomar brake pads come with a full set of installation accessories?
Our passenger car products are supplied with accessories in accordance with the recommendations of original equipment manufacturers. For the truck market, we offer a complete set of accessories necessary for product installation (with the only exception being patented accessories).
Does Fomar guarantee specific mileage?
There are many factors that affect brake pad wear, including the quality of the brake discs, road conditions, driving style, and the topography of the area where the vehicle is used. Additionally, vehicle usage, such as frequent braking in urban traffic or driving in hilly terrain, can significantly impact pad longevity. Ambient temperature and the heat generated during braking also play a crucial role in the durability of the brake pad materials. The installation process and the condition of the entire brake system, including pistons and brake fluid, are also important factors to consider.
Do Fomar brake pads produce dust?
Our brake pads are designed with dust minimization in mind. We engineer them to reduce dust emissions as much as possible during use. However, it is important to note that the amount of dust can depend on various factors, including operating conditions, the type of vehicle, and individual driving style. Additionally, factors such as the type of brake disc and the condition of the brake caliper can influence dust levels. Regular maintenance of the brake system can also help minimize dust. Our pads are tested for dust emission to ensure optimal performance and driving comfort.
Does Fomar offer ceramic brake pads for electric or hybrid vehicles?
Due to the high durability of our standard brake pads, we do not use a mixture with ceramic dust additives. Fomar offers brake pads with enhanced durability (thanks to the use of specific components) designed for high-speed vehicles and vehicles with higher load capacities. Our pads meet the requirements of the AMS (Auto Moto Sport) test. Our R&D department is working on expanding our product range to include brake pads specifically for electric and hybrid vehicles.
What do Fomar brake pads have that other manufacturers' brake pads don't?
Fomar brake pads stand out due to their meticulous design, tailored to the specific continent where they will be used, ensuring optimal performance in various road and climate conditions. Additionally, all our pads undergo detailed testing and are adjusted based on customer feedback, allowing us to meet the requirements of different markets. Fomar brake pads are also characterized by high-quality materials and precise craftsmanship, ensuring durability and braking efficiency. Our products are designed to minimize noise and dust, contributing to driving comfort and environmental care. Moreover, thanks to innovative technical solutions, Fomar pads provide the highest level of safety during braking, as confirmed by relevant certifications and quality tests.
