High mileage
and driving comfort
We specialize in the production and distribution of brake system parts for passenger vehicles, buses, and trucks.
Fomar has been producing brake system components since 1956, and since 2004 it has been known as Fomar Friction. In 2012, it was acquired by the U.S. company MAT Holdings Inc., which merged it with Roulunds Braking. This merger provided Fomar Friction with opportunities for growth and expansion in the passenger and truck segments. A modern research center in Denmark, the expertise of MAT Holdings Inc., and additional investment resources enable continuous improvement in product quality and the expansion of the product range.
How do we test our brake pads?
Fomar Friction products undergo constant quality control during design and production, in compliance with ISO 26865, ISO 26866, and Regulation 90 (ECE) standards. They are then road-tested under various conditions across Europe. We collaborate with Polish transport companies and public institutions to assess real-world mileage, braking efficiency, and driving comfort. During the 2017/2018 season, in partnership with ZTM in Warsaw, the durability of our latest materials in terms of wear resistance and driving comfort was confirmed.

Measurements showed no noise during operation, and interviews with passengers and drivers were positive. The average brake pad wear in 15 buses was 65% after a distance of 53,000 km, which predicts a total mileage of 86,000 km before full wear.
The brake disc wear is approximately 2 mm after 53,000 km, suggesting that the discs could last up to 220,000 km. This means that one set of discs corresponds to 2-3 sets of brake pads. Additionally, the discs remain smooth, without grooves or micro-cracks.
The brake pads do not generate excessive amounts of dust, which prevents corrosion and keeps the wheels and chassis clean, benefiting the overall performance of the vehicle.
